Our Story

Starting a vineyard and winery is no small feat. It takes courage – but above all, it takes passion. And passion is something Emma and David White have never lacked. Their love for wine has taken them around the world, collecting stories behind unique flavours and connecting with wine through culture. This journey gave them a distinct perspective – that of the consumer. It’s this outlook that has shaped Latitude 32.

OUR Vineyards

Why do the world’s best wines flourish on the 32nd Latitude? It’s a question that fuels our relentless pursuit of capturing the true essence of our home in the Hunter Valley. Renowned for its rich traditions and heritage, boasting some of the oldest vineyards globally, the Hunter Valley is our muse.

Who we are

The Latitude 32 name

Traditionally, the world’s most famous wine-growing regions are located between the 30th and 50th parallels of the Earth’s equator. Within this esteemed latitude band lies the Hunter Valley, positioned at the 32nd parallel, where our name originates.

Latitude 32 draws inspiration from the rich heritage of Australia’s first wine-growing region. However, we are not a traditional winery bound by the conventions of the past. Our goal is to blend tradition with a sense of fun, creating textural, delicious, and contemporary Australian wines.

Our history

In 2019, Emma and David left their corporate jobs and purchased a 50-acre old vine vineyard in Pokolbin. They faced numerous challenges, including bushfires, the COVID-19 pandemic, and difficult growing conditions, which presented a steep learning curve. Despite these obstacles, they thrived; in their first year of operation, Latitude 32 received 4½ stars from James Halliday.

In 2021, they hand-planted 1 hectare of Shiraz and brought winemaker Damien Stevens on board to collaborate on wine production in a spacious old Lindeman’s winery on McDonald’s Road. In 2023, they purchased their second vineyard—also located in Pokolbin—from Mistletoe Wines, which came complete with award-winning 30-year-old vines of Shiraz, Semillon, Chardonnay, and Muscat.

The additional space enabled Emma and David to open the thriving Latitude 32 cellar door in 2023, boasting spectacular views of the vineyard and the Brokenback Mountains. The cellar door experience and winemaking process are both approached from a fresh perspective, embracing a spirit of adventure and discovery.

Our philosophy

At Latitude 32, we focus on creating premium wines that bring joy and exceed expectations. Our wines are crafted with the consumer in mind, providing an experience that is as adventurous as it is memorable.

With our new plantings, we will introduce exciting new wines to the region while preserving the quality of the traditional wines we cherish from our existing 40-year-old vines. In addition to our vineyard, we source premium fruit from other growers, which allows us to maintain full control over the winemaking process, from grape to glass.

Each growing season is unique, and every weather event influences the final wine that ends up in your glass. We strive to produce wines that genuinely reflect their origins and the specific time of their production. Instead of concealing the variations of each vintage, we celebrate them. As a result, all our vintages are distinct, interesting, and one-of-a-kind.

Our vineyards

Regenerative viticulture

We’re committed to making sustainable wine, which means managing our vineyards in a way that preserves natural resources, reduces waste and pollution, and promotes biodiversity. We believe that regenerative viticulture — focused on enhancing soil health, fostering biodiversity, and addressing climate change — is essential for the industry’s long-term viability.

As certified members of Sustainable Winegrowing Australia, we have already adopted regenerative practices in our vineyards and winemaking processes. The primary objective of regenerative viticulture is to increase the amount of carbon stored in the soil. Our methods include using cover crops, employing drip irrigation, composting, implementing integrated pest management, and reducing chemical inputs. We are constantly exploring new ways to improve our environmental, social, and governance efforts.
