Our

Story

THROUGH
A NEW LENS

Starting a vineyard and winery is no small feat. It takes courage—but above all, it takes passion. And passion is something Emma and David White have never lacked. Their love for wine has taken them around the world, collecting stories behind unique flavours and connecting with wine through culture. This journey gave them a distinct perspective—that of the consumer. It’s this outlook that has shaped Latitude 32.

So, how do you turn passion into reality? With hard work and a leap of faith. After years of exploring wines from across the globe, Emma and David returned to the place that first ignited their dream—the Hunter Valley. This renowned region, with its rich winemaking history, became the foundation for their vision.

“I COULD HAVE PURCHASED A VINEYARD
AND LIVED MY DREAM ANYWHERE
but doing it in Australia’s home of wine
was a huge draw card for me.”

They purchased their first vineyard in 2018, expanding in 2023 with the award-winning Mistletoe Vineyard. From the beginning, Latitude 32 has been deeply connected to its origins—a place where Emma and David are redefining what’s possible in the Hunter Valley. Here, every wine tells the story of the land, celebrating seasonal diversity and embracing innovation beyond tradition.

Emma believes that great wine starts in the vineyard. After extensive study in viticulture, she has committed to a regenerative and sustainable approach—one that nurtures both soil and vine. This dedication has already earned Latitude 32 critical acclaim. And now, with their newly renovated cellar door, visitors can experience firsthand the wines that bring their vision to life.

Though Emma and David built their careers in finance, their future was always in wine. When passion runs that deep, it’s only a matter of time. Latitude 32 is the result of years spent chasing wine around the world—now seen through a new lens in the Hunter Valley.

Who we are

The Latitude 32 name
Harvest

Traditionally, the world’s most famous wine-growing regions are located between the 30th and 50th parallels of the Earth’s equator. Within this esteemed latitude band lies the Hunter Valley, positioned at the 32nd parallel, where our name originates.

Latitude 32 draws inspiration from the rich heritage of Australia’s first wine-growing region. However, we are not a traditional winery bound by the conventions of the past. Our goal is to blend tradition with a sense of fun, creating textural, delicious, and contemporary Australian wines.

Our history
Wine Throw

In 2019, Emma and David left their corporate jobs and purchased a 50-acre old vine vineyard in Pokolbin. They faced numerous challenges, including bushfires, the COVID-19 pandemic, and difficult growing conditions, which presented a steep learning curve. Despite these obstacles, they thrived; in their first year of operation, Latitude 32 received 4½ stars from James Halliday.

In 2021, they hand-planted 1 hectare of Shiraz and brought winemaker Damien Stevens on board to collaborate on wine production in a spacious old Lindeman’s winery on McDonald’s Road. In 2023, they purchased their second vineyard—also located in Pokolbin—from Mistletoe Wines, which came complete with award-winning 30-year-old vines of Shiraz, Semillon, Chardonnay, and Muscat.

The additional space enabled Emma and David to open the thriving Latitude 32 cellar door in 2024, boasting spectacular views of the vineyard and the Brokenback Mountains. The cellar door experience and winemaking process are both approached from a fresh perspective, embracing a spirit of adventure and discovery.

Wine Throw
Our philosophy

At Latitude 32, we focus on creating premium wines that bring joy and exceed expectations. Our wines are crafted with the consumer in mind, providing an experience that is as adventurous as it is memorable.

With our new plantings, we will introduce exciting new wines to the region while preserving the quality of the traditional wines we cherish from our existing 40-year-old vines. In addition to our vineyard, we source premium fruit from other growers, which allows us to maintain full control over the winemaking process, from grape to glass.

Each growing season is unique, and every weather event influences the final wine that ends up in your glass. We strive to produce wines that genuinely reflect their origins and the specific time of their production. Instead of concealing the variations of each vintage, we celebrate them. As a result, all our vintages are distinct, interesting, and one-of-a-kind.

Regenerative viticulture

We’re committed to making sustainable wine, which means managing our vineyards in a way that preserves natural resources, reduces waste and pollution, and promotes biodiversity. We believe that regenerative viticulture — focused on enhancing soil health, fostering biodiversity, and addressing climate change — is essential for the industry’s long-term viability.

As certified members of Sustainable Winegrowing Australia, we have already adopted regenerative practices in our vineyards and winemaking processes. The primary objective of regenerative viticulture is to increase the amount of carbon stored in the soil. Our methods include using cover crops, employing drip irrigation, composting, implementing integrated pest management, and reducing chemical inputs. We are constantly exploring new ways to improve our environmental, social, and governance efforts.

“ONE OF THE ADVANTAGES OF BEING NEW
TO THIS INDUSTRY IS THAT WE ARE
NOT BEHOLDEN TO MULTIPLE GENERATIONS
OF TRADITIONS. WE DON'T HAVE TO DELIVER
THAT HISTORY IN THE GLASS.
WE COME AT WINEMAKING NOT FROM
THE TRADITIONAL WINEMAKER'S PERSPECTIVE
BUT FROM A CONSUMER'S PERSPECTIVE.
THIS GIVES US ENORMOUS FREEDOM AND
FLEXIBILITY IN TERMS OF OUR VINTAGES."

Meet the Team

Emma White

Founder, Co-owner & Director Emma is the heart, soul, and occasional chaos coordinator at Latitude 32.

Emma spent over two decades leading from the front in Australia’s construction and property sector, shaping strategy and building businesses with purpose. But Emma always had another passion and dream – to be the creator of her own wines.

Emma traded boardrooms with barrel rooms, spreadsheets with soil and acquired two premium vineyard sites in Pokolbin. In typical Emma fashion, she threw herself into formal studies in viticulture and oenology, studying in Sydney and London.

Not born into the world of wine, Emma brings something different: a fresh, consumer-first perspective shaped by how she discovered wine herself, through travel, tastings, shared stories, and the magic of a great bottle. At Latitude 32, she brings wine to life through a new lens — bold, authentic, and anything but ordinary.

Guided by her personal mantra: fun with serious intent, it’s Emma’s vision that drives the business. She’s unapologetically ambitious in her pursuit of quality, and fiercely passionate about creating wines made in sustainably that surprise, delight, and connect.

David White

Co-Owner & Director David’s passion for wine began over 20 years ago when he and Emma moved to Australia. What began as a shared love for wine soon evolved into a deeper connection with vineyard culture and the global wine scene — explored through extensive travels to wine regions across the globe and formalised through WSET studies.

His appreciation for terroir, balance, and authenticity continues to shape everything he brings to Latitude 32.

By day, David is a senior partner at Deloitte, where he led the Retail Practice for over 8 years, advising major brands on strategy and customer experience. By night (and weekend), he brings that strategic and commercial expertise to Latitude 32, driving brand development and business performance. David has a relentless focus on quality, putting the customer at the heart of every decision.

David’s focus on quality and execution complements Emma’s bold creativity — together, they make a formidable team at the helm of Latitude 32.

Adam Holmberg

Chief Winemaker Originally from Victoria, Adam Holmberg relocated to the Hunter Valley, believing there was no better place to hone his craft than Australia’s oldest wine region. With over 26 years of experience, Adam brings deep technical knowledge and a commitment to site-driven winemaking to Latitude 32.

Adam has trained under some of Australia’s most respected winemakers, including Andrew Spinaze at Tyrrell’s, Mark Woods at Leogate Estate, and Sarah Crowe at Bimbadgen (now Yarra Yering). He has also completed international vintages in California and New Zealand.

Adam’s winemaking philosophy blends traditional techniques with modern thinking. He believes great wine begins in the vineyard and should reflect not just its place, but also the growing conditions of each year—embracing vintage variation as an essential expression of authenticity, balance, and the evolving story of every wine.

Zac Pique

Cellar Door Manager Zac is the friendly face you’ll likely meet first (and remember fondly) at Latitude 32. With over eight years of experience in the Hunter Valley wine scene, he knows how to provide a standout wine tasting experience — one that’s equal parts delicious, educational, and fun. From guiding you through a crisp Chardonnay to matching Shiraz with a cheeseburger dumpling, Zac is all about helping guests find their perfect pairing. He’s a big believer that wine should be personal, not pretentious — and he tailors every tasting to your vibe, whether you're new to wine or a wine aficionado. He’s also got the local insider knowledge: whatever you’re looking to eat, drink or experience Zac has you covered. Zac’s mission? Make sure everyone leaves with fond memories, a few stories, and of course some amazing wines to take home and recreate the tasting experience with friends and family.
